Reaction to Anenih’s diatribe on Oshiomhole’s administrationPublished on October 12th, 2009
My attention have been drawn to statements credited to the Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Chief Tony Anenih, describing the Action Congress (AC) led administration in the state as a vibrating AC without compressor, which can never cool the house, and a vehicle without engine.
Specifically, in the Punch Newspapers of yesterday, Chief Anenih was frontal in his attack on the State Governor where he casted aspersion on the Governor saying ‘governance is a serious ball game because you must be organised than jumping from one place to another asking for acclamation and clapping of hands by students’ union leaders’.
I think as an elder statesman, the interest of Edo State should pre-occupy his mind than playing politics with development and our future generations. Whatever decadence we have experienced in Edo State so far is traceable to the doorsteps of Chief Anenih because, he dictated in the political space for over 10 years before the emergence of our liberator, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole.
For the PDP and Chief Anenih to frontally attack the Governor of the state calls for all well-meaning Edo people to be prepared to take their destiny into their hands because he may have somewhat up his sleeves against the generality of Edo people. For about 10 years, the PDP perpetuated terror in the state. During their dark days in government, Deacon Bayo Ogbomo, former PDP state secretary was abducted and later released after they achieved their dastard acts. They held sway when Commissioners in the state lost their precious lives.
During their illegal occupation of Government House, the official quarters of a Judge was bombed over the internal crises that have continued to bedevil the PDP till date. Apart from undoing themselves in elections - both the primaries and inter-party elections, the PDP has also inflicted orchestrated arsons, destruction of properties and injuries upon themselves arising from factional disagreements. These are verifiable facts and these are not elements of good governance under the PDP with Chief Anenih as its Leader.
No party has also woefully failed to utilize the opportunities their dominance created for the common good. PDP fights itself. Its primaries are wars fought with maximum impact. Law enforcement agents look away when PDP members engage themselves in criminal matters ranging from arson to murder, albeit, they are treated as “family
affairs”.
PDP is a party of huge numbers and common commotions. When the signs appear, the party feigns surprise. In PDP, rule of law translates to the rule of the mighty; PDP is a great study in immodesties. In Edo State, all the complaints about corruption and poor governance immediately indict a party that has dominated the state polity in the past 10 years. The PDP typifies an unbridled greed, unchecked indiscipline and a party that runs on convenience.
The PDP rejection of internal democracy is evident in Anambra today. Before the Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole emergence, Edo people were in trepidation over what PDP intends to turn the state to.
We are aware of how they hired people from the 18 local government areas to attend the Ewohimi charade called defection. Who are those people that decamped apart from Mr. Kenneth Imasuagbon? Alternatively, was it PDP that decamped from PDP to PDP? On the podium were Henry Idahagbon, Pascal Ugbome; both PDP with brooms. Where were the AC faithfuls who decamped and from which wards and registration numbers?
Signed,
Mr. Retti Uzi,
Publicity Secretary,
Action Congress, Edo State
