Dipo Dina: Death threat letter fingers Gov Daniel in assassination? *It’s a robbery case-Vigilance Group Published on January 29th, 2010

The Police in Ogun State are now working on a lead that says slain Ogun governorship candidate of Action Congress (AC) Mr Dipo Dina, had been served a death threat letter from Governor Gbenga Daniel, a week before the former was gunned down.

A close family source to the deceased politician told sharpedgenews.com that the said letter is now being kept as exhibit by a family member whose identity is being protected for security reasons.

“We have the letter that was addressed to Dipo Dina’s wife, in which the governor urged her to warn her husband to “give me rest of mind or I eliminate him,” a family source said

But Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Ado-Odo/Ota branch of Ogun State has attributed the killing of Dina on Monday to robbery incident.
Alhaji Adeyemi Ayetoto, the Commandant General of VGN in the area, made the clarification at a press conference in Olota’s Palace, Ota on Wednesday.

According to him, the spot where the incident took place at about 10.30p.m. has for long been a black spot and a hot bed for armed robbery incidents in Ota.

Transcript of the Audio Recording:

“His death is a loss, not just to us in Ogun state but to the entire nation.

“We feel that it is our responsibility as an informal medium of security to draw attention to the fact that the spot at which Otunba Dipo Dina met his unfortunate death has for long been a black spot and hot bed for armed robbery incidents in Ota.

“We know this to be the fact because our vigilante teams have the responsibility to provide a level of security for the area of Ado-Odo/Canaan-land axis where this unfortunate incident occurred.

“Preliminary report and investigation so far indicated that the incident may be a case of armed robbery.

“Our interest is in the wider picture of the implication of the murder of Otunba Dipo Dina and what has been happening in Ado-Odo Ota Local government area in general and in particular, on the roads stretching from Sango through Ota-Idi-Iroko and from Atan to Igbesa to Agbara axis.

He recalled that it was at the same spot that Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s convoy was attacked some years back.

Alhaji Ayetoto attributed the frequent robbery attack in the area to lack of visible presence of Police on the road.

He said the group had made repeated complaints to the Security agencies about the security challenges on the roads, particularly on Sango-Ota-Idi-Iroko and Atan-Igbesa-Agbara axis
