BREAKING NEWSSenate Tells Yar’Adua to Comply with the Law "He must Continue in Office" – FEC Published on January 27th, 2010

The Senate in Nigeria on Wednesday passed a resolution mandating ailing President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to comply with Section 145 of the country’s constitution.

The Senate which had been lurked in a protracted debate over the propriety of President Yar’Adua’s long absence from the country passed a resolution calling on him to properly inform the apex law making body in the country that “he is proceeding on a medical vacation.”

The Senate however maintains a silent position on whether the president should also express the desire that Vice President Goodluck Jonathan should act in his lieu.

The senate resolution which came after various long stormy sessions, some of them nocturnal, came in the heels of a decision by the nation’s Federal Executive Council, F.E.C that President Yar’Adua should continue in office “as he is still adjudged capable.”

FEC rising from its weekly meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa said the president must continue. He is medically strong enough to carry on.

Pressure continues to mount on the FEC of Nigeria to make available documentary evidence that would convince everybody that President Yar’Adua is medically fit.
