James Lowery, U.S. Man Wrongfully Convicted May Get $7.5 M Compensation Published on January 20th, 2010
Eddie James Lowery was convicted in 1982 for raping a woman in upstate Kansas. He was coerced into confessing to the crime he did not commit.
Manhattan, Kansas city council debates today to how much to compensate for him for staying in jail till 1998 when he was paroled. DNA evidence has now conclusively absolved him of any involvement in the crime.
Mr. Lowery’s layers are asking for a compensation of $15 million for him. But the city may want to pay as low as $7.5 million.
