Killings in Benue/Rivers States: Police Deploy Surveillance Helicopters, DIG

By Dele Ogbodo

Following the recent slaughtering of innocent citizens in Benue and Rivers States by suspected herdsmen, cultists and armed men

the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris has deployed Police surveillance helicopters to the affected states while ordering the immediate relocation of his Deputy, Mr. Habila Joshak, to Benue State to re-enforce the Force.

Also to shore up support, Idris has ordered the Commissioners of Police (CPs) in Benue, Rivers and contiguous states with their supervising Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) of Police and personnel to be on 24 hour red alert.

This according to him will help prevent further attacks and killings of innocent Nigerians by suspected herdsmen and other criminal elements within the states.

The disclosure was contained in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP, Jimoh Moshood, in a statement made available to Sharpedgenews online on Saturday afternoon in Abuja.

On the killings, which has generated outcry across the country, The statement read: "IGP deploys additional 5 units of Police Mobile Force, Special Forces, Police Aerial Surveillance Helicopters and joint Intelligence and Investigation to the 2 States."

According to Moshood, 8 suspected herdsmen arrested at the scene of the killings in Benue State are currently being prosecuted, explaining that 6 of them were remanded to prison custody while the other two 2 suspects arrested at a different scene of crime are being arraigned in court.
