Due to the recent increase of sexually abused children, Sexual Offences Awareness Rehabilitation (SOAR)

has called upon the aid of the NYSC to help combat the fight and rights of sexually abused children with the help of corps members.

This was disclosed at the 1st workshop in conjunction with SOAR on the role and responsibility of NYSC-CDs officials in responding to child abuse.

In the opening remark the Executive Director of SOAR Chinyere Eyoh stated the fact and objective of the project. She said it will help to build the capacity of NYSC corps members to raise awareness against child sexual abuse as advocates to respond to survivors.

She also said it will help establish linkages and referral pathways between the youth advocates NYSC and CSO's.

She further emphasized that not all cases get to court and so corps members will need to be trained on how to counsel such victims.

Participants were also enlightened on the management of sexual abuse disclosures, how to approach certain cases of abuse and appropriate bodies to involve.

The workshop was to kick start a One-year project with the NYSC-CDs officials in the federal capital and Benue state respectively.
