activities in Akwa Ibom State is that of deceit, fraud, abandonment and shoddy projects execution.
A rights advocate group, Akwa Ibom Integrity Group in a seven page release made available to our newsroom in Uyo revealed that no fewer than 321 projects have been recklessly abandoned by the commission in the state, while more non-existent projects are currently being advertised by the current leadership of the commission.
Of this number, rural roads top the chart with 121 abandoned roads, while there are 75 uncompleted classroom blocks, 69 rural water schemes and 43 mini-electrification projects all left unattended to, by the current leadership of the NDDC.
The release signed by Chief Okon Jim also maintained that most projects being claimed today by NDDC, were at various stages of completion by the Akwa Ibom state government under the administration of Mr. Udom Emmanuel. “The surrogates and hirelings of both the NDDC and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have inundated the pages of both the conventional and social media with some of these phantom projects.
“We wish to inform the good people of Akwa Ibom state that the NDDC, instead of executing projects in the state, has systematically abandoned them” the release added.
The press release indicates that ONNA local government has the highest number of abandoned projects totaling about 23 followed by Nsit Ubuim with 22 while Uyo and Nsit Ibom local government areas have 18 abandoned projects each.
The projects that have been abandoned include portable water scheme, road projects, renovation of classroom blocks, solar powered street light, provision of electricity transformers and electrification of some communities, skill acquisition centers, Town Halls, and ICT centres. It could be recalled that another group in the state, Mandate Eyes, recently blew open the fraud in NDDC where projects earmarked to be executed in Akwa Ibom state were found to have either been completed by the state government or currently being executed by the government.
But Akwa Ibom Integrity group in its release, declared that, “We bring the attention of the world to the numerous projects the agency has abandoned throughout the 31 local government areas of the State” “It is time, the NDDC under Mr Nsima Ekere worked to finish these abandoned projects rather than try to insult the intelligence of Akwa Ibom people with phantom new projects,” the group advised.
